A day's trip to Satakosia Wildlife Sanctuary, Tikarpada,Odisha

Satkosia-Gorge-Sanctuary is located in the districts of Nayagarh, Angul and Boudh in the state of Odisha. Satkosia-Gorge-Sanctuary is best visited during the months of October to June, when the weather is pleasant and favourable for exploring the sanctuary. The approximate distance between from Bhubanesar is 153km.

Tikarpada is  a small village in the Anugl district of Orissa that commands a stunning view of the surrounding rugged terrain, offers a spectacular view of Mahanadi River as it cuts through the densely forested Eastern Ghats with sheer force and raw power. Tikarapada also serves as a convenient base for a  Gharial Research and Conservation Centre  established at Tikarpada in 1975 to save the small population of these reptiles . Satkosia can be reached either from Angul or from the Athagarh side.

Satkosia wildlife sanctuary  Situated on the bank of Mahanadi,  is a place that feeds to the imagination of any nature loving tourist. The forest situated amidst the 22 km long gorge which the  river Mahanadi forms hosts a biodiversity that is rich and unique .The name Satakosia originates from two words, sat means seven and kosa means two miles which is 14miles or 22km in length through which the river Mahanadi Flows
